It’s the chemical reaction that makes the pressure build up so fast the tire blows up in short order. There are you tube videos showing experiments performed with a remote controlled welder welding on the rim and a pressure gauge hooked to the stem. The welder will weld for a short time. After the welder stops the pressure keeps building up faster and faster till the tire blows up.
