Elizabethtown,KY | When I was 7 and my future wife was 5 we met at her grandparents on her mom's side for a Sunday dinner.
My mom was raised near her grandparents and helped with feeding of field hands for threshing and corn shreddings. When I was young they would come to our farm in the adjoining county for Sunday dinner a least once a year and we would go to their house for dinner as well.
I ran into her again when she was 12 and I was 14 when she came to visit us with her great aunts and uncle who my mom had been friends with as well.
The next time I saw her was the summer before I graduated from college when I stopped to visit her aunts and uncle after visiting my grandfather who lived near them. She happened to be spending the week-end with them and I called her the next week and asked her out. We saw Three Dog Night at the KY State fair in August of that year and dated steadily after that.
That was the summer of '70 and we got married in November of '71, so we will be married 54 years in November. | |
