Actually, I think it has a LOT to do with marketing. You lose price if your grain gets damaged. Neighbors of mine used to put bag right next to field so that the combine could run at 100% capacity non stop. A few years ago we had a really wet spring, field was too soft to drive into, and corn was starting to lose condition. I noticed since then that the bag sits right next to a hard driveway now, for better access.
If it rained that much for the 6 weeks after July, you Neb guys either had hellish yields or massive savings in pivot fuel, maybe both. |
