North of London | Have recently heard a couple stories of how people met their partner and have thought about the various ways a couple met.
Some are common like school.
My sister met her second husband who had also been married before on a blind date set up by mutual friends.
I do know several couples who met at school and went on to marry but I will relate a couple stories that got me thinking about this subject
A couple married for about 20 years I recently was in conversation with and their story was meeting at a wedding.
He was a friend of the groom, she was a friend of the bride.
While conversation did not confirm it seemed that bride was probably responsible for seating them together at a table for meal after ceremony and later invited them both to a party at the brides new home.
The rest is history as the couple came from some distance apart.
Then last week I attended a celebration of life for a cousins wife and their daughter related how her parents met.
They did not attend the same school but did attend a dance in a community between their schools.
My cousin asked a young lady to dance and that young lady refused BUT his future wife sitting beside her said she would dance with him
She was 14, he was 16 and the rest was history
He asked her to marry when she was 17 and they married when she was 19
They would have celebrated 60 years this summer.
I met my future wife when she began high school in grade 9 and I was in grade 10.
How we 'met' was because her brother was one of a group of grade 10 boys I chummed around with plus my sister was also in her grade 9 class as well as a cousin of mine.
Now all that came from that was meeting one another and although we went to a birthday party as a 'couple' it was just a convenience for the gathering and when I graduated from high school and went off to college we did not see one another again for years.
I graduated from college and came home to farm and a couple years later attended a cousins wedding.
The cousin who was in school with my sister and future wife and had become good friends with my wife so she was maid of honour.
I danced with her and found out she had just graduated from nursing school in the spring and when we attended a surprise gathering at my newly married cousin's we talked again and this led to a date to see a movie next week and the rest was history.
Married a couple years later and managed 55 years together.
Anyone else interested in telling their story?
Perhaps some with different things bringing them together. | |
