South Central MN | Hydraulic downforce would be nice on the fields where we spread manure in the spring, have a couple rows running in a spreader track and the rest aren't, so with springs you end up setting the whole works on the heavy side. Air bags would be a middle option but would still have some rows not perfect. Someday I'll be able to upgrade...
I guess one upside for springs is it can be one less thing to somehow leak and put a stop to planting especially on a Sunday. Like the fertilizer hose that somehow found the seed meter drive shaft after riding just fine for a few years. At least I have a bunch of extra hose for the system in the shed.
If a field is consistent all the way across though and you can get it set right the basic old planter will perform just as well. | |
