| If you are going to weld it mounted, pull the valve and weld only a small area at a small time and immediately quench with cold water to keep the heat down and wait before welding some more. I've used this technique myself with no issues. It's only an issue if the rim is not kept cool and the pressure inside the tire builds faster than the valve body can release it. If it's a tubed tire you won't be able to weld it mounted, because the tube will melt where it touches the rim at the weld site. I will add that, anyone welding on an outer rim, next to the tire, to the point where the tire is smoldering, is a bigger fool than I am.
