The trouble is, it’s not just the religious communities that are highly unvaccinated these days. With all the antivax bull**** that’s popular these days we have enough unvaccinated kids and young adults sprinkled around our country to maintain transmission through the general population. This will invariably find children less than 1 year of age that are unvaccinated and whose maternal immunity they were born with has waned. Of course if the mother was unvaccinated and has never contracted the virus, that baby will be susceptible from day one of life.

There’s also people with transplanted organs on immunosuppressive drugs. People are commonly receiving chemotherapy for cancer or autoimmune disease like lupus and even eczema these days. I don’t think we really know how bad a generalized outbreak would be. Hopefully we never find out.
