| I will give it a go. First step to keeping China in check is to organize a coalition with our allies to stand up against China. Alienating and making our allies turn against us only drives them towards China as they look for trade partners who do not turn on them.
Let the inspector generals do their job instead of firing them. The inspector generals must have done a very good job of keeping fraud at bay since Doge could not find any fraud that rose to level of a crime. Wasteful spending needs to be fixed at the legislative level. Make it so expenditures go through the proper committees process to expose bad spending instead of lumping an onimbus bill last minute that no one really knows what is in. Musk started out by saying he will save two trillion, while the latest announcement was we can save 150 billion. Coincidentally 150 billion is almost the amount the deficit has increased faster than last year at this time, haphazardly cutting does not seem to help.
To reduce the deficit, first item is to let the tax breaks of last bill lapse as scheduled. Solvency of social security can be permanently fixed by raising the FICA cap to a more reasonable level. The first item that should be cut is defense spending, start at 10%. Additional cuts can be made in a smaller amount by letting the department heads choose what they feel would be most cost effective. Three areas that cuts should not take place are NWS, because they save lives and money; IRS, because they generate 5x more revenue than they cost by limiting tax evasion; and national park workers, because they also generate more revenue than they cost per employee.
The final aspect is to continue our economic growth without the chaos and uncertainty that on/ off tariffs that are developing an economic recession. Noting that trade deficit has nothing to due with a budget deficit.
On immigration, I would follow the bipartisan bill that failed which would increase border security while increasing the staff needed to process through the immigration request. I find it interesting that at first every illegal was considered a gang member and murderer by Trump. Now the current plan is to have every illegal who works in agriculture or hospitality to leave and then turn around and come back so they can be considered legal essential workers. This means either most illegals are hard working crime free individuals, or we will be just turning around and letting criminals back in.
