| I could only attempt partial answers. Looking at SNAP, I dug and found it adds about 2.5% to Walmart's earnings ($400 million profit off $20 Billion in EBT sales). Walmart's total earnings was a bit over $16 billion last year on total revenue of $650 billion for perspective.
So it actually moves the needle a lot less than I would have guessed. SNAP is $110 billion in a $30 trillion economy.
A bigger impact to your point is probably military spending. Deficit money shows up, just probably has less to do with true welfare. Social Security is a mixed bag - it is welfare to some, more equal to some, and a net tax on me. | |
