I'd give that distinction to the A and the B. For a simple row-crop tractor that can cultivate and plow, that was a phenomenal design. But Deere should have moved on sooner; the 1950's two-cylinders had lost all of the simplicity inherent to their design, because those fancy bits didn't fit well on the transverse layout.



JD had a higher market share vs IH in the mid to late 50s with the numbered 2 cylinders than they ever did with the A and B.  Even matched them in sales in certain hp segments.  JD got rid of the 2 cylinder at the right time and it wasn't too soon.
