That’s a neat piece of history for sure. Not trying to derail the thread, but I’ve always wondered—what tractors were better overall, the 88 series IH or the 94 series Case machines? I’ve never ran either one, so I’m just curious. I know they ended up going with the Case 94 series after the merger, but I’ve heard folks argue both sides. Anyone with seat time in both care to weigh in?


The 88 series was better than the 94 series. But there was going to be some work involved in setting up a production line for the full-powershift version of the 88-series. The 88-series would also have needed either an immediate repower, or a purchase agreement to buy the DT engines from International. Overall, it was simpler to just keep producing the existing 94 series, and take a few years to get the 88 series ready for reintroduction.
