S Illinois | What are you using as the metric of the “glory days”? Poverty 70 years ago was just as pervasive back then as today. We just didn’t see it because our daily world view was 10-20 miles with the a smattering of 50-100 miles depending on what TV station one could get in or what newspapers were delivered. Also poverty isn’t poverty when everyone is in the same boat.
There is a lot of nostalgia that seems to cause people to over glorify previous times. No different than farmers views of growing seasons. The current one is always terrible or borderline disaster. 6 months after harvest and the growing season is looked back upon with much more favorability. | |
