| Our entire legal system is based on someone getting paid. My oldest son and the vehicle in front of him, ran the stop sign on a school bus. Neither one say they ever saw it out, and I believe them. They weren't stopped on the spot, but pulled in the next day based on bus camera footage. Didn't like that, either. They both got a ticket, they both had to get a lawyer, pay $200 and go to court, and pay, I don't remember how much more, to go to defensive driver training. We had to go to St. Louis for that, as all the local ones have quit. If you didn't have money to get the lawyer, money for the defensive driver class, money and time to get there, you would just lose your license for however long. The judge could have just said "Got to defensive driver training". Or the State could make certain that it's local, for free or a reduced cost. The entire system, the way it's set up, greatly advantages those with money. The more money you have, the more you can abuse the system. |
