| Decisions need/will be made. The status quo will not continue on regarding this tinder box. It’s inevitable China will take it over, that much I’m certain of. What I’m not certain of is how much the US is willing to risk intervention to stop this from happening. Behind the scenes, China has indicated if we stand down on Taiwan, they will in turn scrap all tariffs. Trump is a deal maker. If I can have his ear for ten seconds, I’d whisper “You can’t not do this deal”. Are we willing to go to war over Taiwan, and how do you declare victory in a war with China? Would seem to me their military would have to surrender, that’s how wars end. Or less likely, some sort of truce? This is a very, very tall order, one that will carry unimaginable consequences. And very likely we end up losing in the end anyway. He needs to weigh it all out on the balance scale, and send Taiwan a memo, “Sorry, but all good things come to an end sooner or later. It’s been great, but we cannot afford the risk involved to keep you free. Sorry” These are some of the toughest decisions a president ever has to deal with.
