This will be my 33rd season. Indiana here. History of me is later farms we have planted have been the best. This is a continuous conversation every year. Won’t grow in a bag. Neighbors are going. Facts are they don’t pay your bills. We are planting for high yields here. Corn can’t have a bad day. Not much different with beans. To early they can get late season issues. I understand the earlier the better for flowering and the summer solstice discussion. So usually we plant beans first. But 2 years ago we didn’t. We was later start which was May 2nd. We ran corn. Then beans. Had son graduating from college. I Had a very weak mother that wanted to see her grandson graduate in another state. We was 4 days getting lined out to get her ther and back. Then I planted last field. Dry as a bone. Planted them deep as I could go. May 22nd. They was the best beans I’ve ever raised at 79.5 bu/acre. So each ther own. Some have more to do than me. I’ve got large equipment for the acres we farm. I like them coming out of the ground 3-4 days and not having a bad day. 3-4 weeks in the ground. Is not for me. So there’s the other side of the coin. IMO if you want early beans to do their best and be the best you have to push sulfur hard. Normally the first couple numbers of beans we plant will be the best every year. |
