Across the corn belt depending on time of year
not a simple answer.

Is the flowering of the various cover crops in sink with the presence of rootworm beetles? Which species of rootworm? Northern or Western. RW beetles are usually present from Mid July until August and egg laying starts about Aug 1. Males emerge first and at corn pollen shed, the RW population is usually 70-80% males.

Flowers are a pollen source but generally speaking Western RW need the presence of corn to actually lay eggs (unless we are in an area where the "soybean vlaying variant" is present".

Northern RW are less directly tied to corn and tend to lay eggs more widely in other crops.
