S Illinois | Pump the brakes on the grain issue. Most of the “issues” have more to do with many not knowing how the grain business works after you dump your hoppers at the elevators. All those cancellations aren’t just simple walk away because we don’t like the price. Their contracts are no different than yours at the elevators. There’s are always ways to buy out of grain contracts or swap them with others. So when the USDA announces cancelations, the public doesn’t see all the behinds the scenes money movement to facilitate that. Grain and freight is being traded constantly. There are scores of people whose only job is to match grain and buyers at the lowest price possible and make money doing it. So when China “cancels” grain, they are paying a price to do that. The manipulation is much less than many realize. The multinational grain companies aren’t stupid and neither are the traders on the CBOT. They aren’t out to lose money even when it comes to trade with China. | |
