Across the corn belt depending on time of year | I work closely with the researcher Dr. Peterson and we just had a remote session. We are trying to figure out if she had an application problem originally since the nematode numbers are very low and quite unexpected. At this point, I believe there were application problems and the appropriate number of nematodes were not applied. Dr. Peterson is attempting to look for every other reason before agreeing with my assessment. Over nearly 100,000 acres applied, we have only had failure to establish when the application is incorrect, the applicator failed to remove the screens and filters or the nematode solution was not aeriated continuously after delivery resulting in dead nematodes.
A few miles west of North Platte, in Paxton, NE, a farmer and cattle feeder has had excellent results and has treated 5 pivots with two more to be inoculated in early Sept this year. He went from corn falling over to straight corn and a yield recovery between 12-17 Bu/ac. A little further west in Lamar, NE, a number of farmers have treated multiple circles with excellent results and yield recoveries in a similar range. |
