NeMO | The producer can be replaced. There will always be someone willing to do it cheaper. It just depends on how hard you want to look. India has a higher population than China, but their gdp is less than 25% of china's.
We can argue who needs who more till we're blue in the face, but that is not the crux of the argument. Which is we HAVE to reduce our dependence on China. That's the end game for the United States. We have to bring manufacturing back to our shores. It won't(can't) happen overnight. Even if we have to rely on a surrogate to fill the gap until we can meet our own needs in the event of an emergency.
