| I suspect it's similar to machine screws. Once you get down past #8 size machine screws, it seems that more often than not you'll find fine threads as the norm vs larger sizes where coarse is the norm.
I always attributed it to that fine threads IIRC has a larger minor dimension and the screws are easier to use vs a coarse size that's really small. I think at smaller sizes it's less difficult to "screw up" the fine threads working with them.
A #10 fine thread machine screw IMO is easier to work with than a coarse thread. | |
