The plan is quite clearly to force China to act like something other than a rogue, mercantilist nation.

He's right, the PRC has stolen IP - endlessly - without anything other than hand-slaps from western courts. I know this, because the PRC has stolen code that I wrote 25+ years ago, and it came out in court that code I wrote was used to show that Huawei stole the IP from cisco.

It is amusing to see the journalists, who have no other way of making an income other than getting in front of a camera and making nonsensical noises, see a billionaire businessman effectively say that Trump's action aren't harsh enough.

The rest of nations are being pulled into this to make it fair and across the board. The PRC is in the center ring of the circus, and they're the main target here.
