NW Iowa | Fats from my area were sent to Chicago by train. Sometimes the farmer rode in the caboose. I don't know how often this happened. The Chicago bid must have been real good sometimes because the Chicago stock yards were four times farther away from us than the Sioux City stock yards. When the fats were sold live weight there would be a lot of shrink happening between here and Chicago. | |
