The entire world now has every incentive to

a) Develop their own industries, as we've shown we aren't a reliable trading partners. This includes defense.

b) form alliances with other nations to trade around the U.S. The recent talks between Japan, South Korea, and China, three countries who don't, uhm, love one another, is testament enough to this.

c) buy and sell to anyone but the U.S. The Trump administration is basically giving up on U.S. soft power. Great, that was a lever the U.S. could use to get other countries to trade with us. Protecting the sea lanes? Let's trade with the U.S. If the U.S. want's to make that transactional, there is going to be a certain amount of middle finger giving.

d) not use the dollar as the reserve currency. What's going on gives countries every incentive to find a trading system not reliant on the dollar. Instead of forcing all trade in the dollar, we are tending to force it away.

Like the guy in Skidmore found out, you can bully one person, but you can't bully a whole town..........
