We removed the tub and put a shower in its place as well. What we did was install a 12" wide x 60" piece of glass with a curved edge at the top so there is no sharp corners in the entry way. This was done at each end of the shower to help retain any water that trys to get around the curtain. The shower assembly panel has a half inch wide edge that allows you to silicon the side edge of the glass and press it against to hold the glass in place and silicon on the bottom as well.
We used a curved rod as you did to allow extra width and the shower curtain is held inside the glass panels at each end. Works great
