Iowa | Good question - our native birth rate is 1.66 kids/couple, so below the replacement threshold of 2.1 - however with immigration (legal and illegal) our population growth is roughly .5%/ year- and has no prospect of going negative. Once we move through the boomers we actually have a good demographic mix.
Compare that with China where by 2100 the population will DECREASE by nearly 55% (some projections as high as 61%) - projecting them at 770 million people (down from 1.4 billion) while USA is projected to grow by 18% from 340 million to 400. In 2100 China is projected to have only 210 million working age people - USA currently has 211 working age people. That’s the biggest problem - can you imagine 700 people and only 200 of them are working age - the vast majority are seniors - that’s probably pretty close ratio for staff/patients at a nursing home- it’s a train wreck. | |
