Subject: Possibly a crazy idea for an ag leader system and red planter

Tuscola, IL
We just bought a split row cyclo planter. An “AFS” 955 to be exact. We’ve been using an 800 cyclo for several years and in the last 5 years bought a new tractor we equipped with AgLeader guidance through an Incommand 1200. We also use it to monitor the planter.

So, my thought is to use this on the 955 instead of the universal display plus that it currently has. Being that the 955 is hydraulic drive (three hydraulic motors turning the seed drums on each hopper) is there any way I can run the hydraulic drive through the InCommand and what would I need to do this? I know I would need to change seed sensors back to the 3 pin sensors used on most cyclos instead of the daisy chained version this planter and the newer 1200 planters use. But I’m really interested in running the hydraulic drive through the AgLeader system to be able to control and monitor the planter and also use it for section/overlap control.

I’m not worried about having to use the Universal Display to fold. A fold box is easy enough to find or at worst make that can simply fold the planter. I’m also not all that concerned about needing the display to set air pressure. That can be done through a hydraulic remote pretty easily. My only hurdle is running the hydraulic seed drive motors.

Anyone have any thoughts? Obviously won’t be a project that gets done this spring. But thinking this planter will be around a long time and as simple as it is, making it fully controlled by the 1200 display would really make it work for us.
