Yes it is still common practice in western Ohio to put oats out with spring alfalfa. The last I did for someone I was down to .75 bu/ac. The alfalfa rep said that it really isn’t required anymore with the better coatings and hybrids of alfalfa but the thought process is hard to break.
Does anyone still sow a nurse crop?
