Faunsdale, AL | How many of those ambulance callouts would have been handled in other ways except for the publicity of the times? Maybe never reported or the athlete taken to doctor by parents?
Schools and coaches don’t want to be called out for not responding appropriately. Think of the response to a kid getting knocked out playing football today vs 50-60 years ago. A dose of smelling salts and some time sitting on the bench was about par for the course back then if a kid wanted to go back in. And the response today is entirely appropriate.
It’s the same thing about VAERS.
Anything new or which gets a lot of press and social media coverage brings up the reporting. Same thing happened for every new vaccine that comes to the market, especially if it’s in any way controversial. Most vaccines are given only to certain age groups every year so that’s a lmited number of doses. Contrast that to COVID vaccines that were recommended to as many people as the supply could cover. That’s a huge increase over any other vaccine in history! So VAERS gets lots of reports.
In fact medical personnel were mandated to report anything that was in any way associated with getting a vaccine. Personnel certainly had the incentive of it being a current, ongoing question of safety to get them to report. The chronic problem of under reporting that is cited is because normally humdrum, same-o, same-o stuff isn’t interesting and takes extra time and effort by already busy people, so it doesn’t get done as often as it should. There’s a lot of censorship going on. Why would I fill out a report for something that I doubt is in any way associated with a vaccination? Maybe I’m mandated to do it but nobody is going to get after me because it’s just not a priority in normal times……..so it doesn’t get done.
VAERS is a mechanism to gather signals about safety. It’s not safety data for all the reasons hilltop has pointed out. When you see someone citing it as evidence of anything you can be sure they have an agenda and may possibly be ignorant as well.
