Must be different in your area than here because a few pounds of cool season grass does absolutely nothing for weed and erosion control the seeding year here, it also greatly limits your weed control options.


I agree on the cool season grasses if you're talking about perennials. I've used a few lbs/acre of annual ryegrass and had some benefit, but it keeps regrowing and competing all of the seeding year. Oats are nice because cut at early heading stage they're off soon enough to not be excessively competitive and regrowth is minimal.
