Typically hasn't bothered me.
The only time it did, I stopped at the Big Texan in Amarillo on a road trip. I got put on a high top table in the main dining room. They did ask, but I figured I wasn't having any adult beverages since I needed to move on. That felt so awkward. If I ever do that again, I'll ask to sit at the bar.
