My sister and I got pretty lucky. Our mom passed last summer age 85 and fortunately there was a will that had only gotten done about 4yrs prior. She was only motivated to have a will setup when an attorney for the town (farm butts up to town) contacted her about a easement as the town was prepping for replacing the water/sewer lines and might need to drive on some of the farm property during the project.

So, when this happened, we find out that not all the land parcels had mom's name on them. Some only my dad, who had passed 8yrs prior. That stuff all got cleaned up and a will so my sister and I didn't need to deal with probate and whatever mess that would result from the land not being in her name even. My dad did not have a will (age 79) when he passed.

I found out last year my one aunt/uncle did not have a will either. Both in their mid 80s and they have a fair bit of farm land and other property as well. I guess they were finally going to get going on that last I heard. I feel bad for the cousins if there is drama there (and I bet there is...).

"I" should have a will too, just turned 59.
