I agree. I went thru this a couple years ago. Things can change unbelievably fast. My mom was working one week and gone the next with a brain tumor. Incapacitated before we knew what was going on so no last minute info. She had a will but it wasn’t done well, she did have directives on her care which proved to be important. She was also taking care of her step mom and that turned out to be a mess too.
My advice to friends now is make sure your estate is in order. Make sure you can avoid probate. Have kids or somebody that knows your plan and will implement it.
As the oldest kid I should have paid more attention, learned the system better and helped her with plans. Also been more involved with her other responsibility’s like my grandpas wife. Fortunately my brother and I get along well and my sister was out of the picture, kind of, but no fighting
Now I need to practice what I preach and get my dad to get his stuff sorted out. And me too.
