NW Washington | The Sunshine harvester was designed and built in Australia, where strippers were used even before combines. The Australians stuck with the "closed" front header for quite a few years, but they are prone to plugging, especially with weeds. They refer to the headers we use as "open" fronts.

I am sure Benjamin Holt invented a self-propelled combine in California before this rig was introduced to the field.
