East Central South Dakota | I try to be honest, and I try to fight my tribal instincts of bias---it is much harder than it should be. Our God child graduated from the Air Force Academy, and we were invited to the Graduation ceremony. President Trump was the President, and he stayed on stage and shook every graduating cadet's hand and then the 30-minute military flyover. I was so proud of my country and our military strength. Our military strength without a doubt gives you a euphoric sense of comfort and security. I have always been on the hawkish side of world conflicts. As we age our views and vision of issues change. My sight of the vision of conflicts half a world away from my shore have changed. I now have five grandchildren with three being males. It is very hard for me to see the vision of my Grandkids dying in a conflict, we don't call them wars anymore, half a world away for a country that only tolerates us. Pure selfishness on my part, as Grandpas have lost grandchildren in war for centuries, but today, it has made me less of a hawk.
I apologize for singling out just Europe, it wasn't my intent. Policing the world is more than just Europe and just as thankless. Can we adjust our military might to just protecting our shores and vital assets? Or have we been given the role of world's policeman without an exit plan from the role? |
