Your story is very common this year. Seems a lot of producers I talk to are having similar problems. Then you talk to a few that are having just banner years. Doesn’t seem to be a lot of ryme or reason. Show guys started early and a lot had similar problems, them a lot of commercials flocks have the same problems on later groups. Blue tongue is one common theory, also heard VERY early exposure to cache valley and also heat as theory’s. Bad news is you can’t test for any of it now and I’m not sure I believe any of the theories truthfully.

I’m in the same boat as you.


My absolute worse year was about 25 years ago. Had a selenium deficiency problem but it didn’t show up as white muscle except on a couple lambs. For some reason most of the lambs only had problem sucking, not walking. I lost a pile of lambs before it took multiple vets to figure it out. Bo-se cured them in a matter of hours. Quite amazing but very frustrating till we figured out the problem.
