Subject: Re: Split Row Planter Population

Central Florida
Still a few questions to be answered. Corn or soybeans? Irrigated or dryland? Where are you located? I have had experience with split rows in the bootheel of MO where they use irrigation. The optimum corn plant population was 36,000. They found out that flex ear hybrids do better than fixed ear hybrids. Split rows tricks a flex ear hybrid into believing it is planted at 18,000 through the six collar stage when it has determined ear size.
