Been doing that myself for many years as well. Also, if you have a little 'ATV sized' trailer, you'd be surprised how often you might wind up using it for other things. My wife uses mine as a yard and garden cart sometimes.
Also, ATV tires wear out fast when being towed on pavement, the trailer really saves the ATV tires if you do a lot of miles. My only recommendation would be to get one with 'real' tires/wheels, not the little bitty tires. I got 14" rims for my trailer, and get used car tires for it from a local tire shop and get by a lot better than my brother who has a similar trailer with the little tires/wheels. Steel belted radials are more puncture resistant than those little 9 inch or whatever tires they put on some of those trailers.
