I bet it's easier than you think, still complex and likely cost prohibitive at this point though. Thermal cameras could pick up that bearing going out long before you could smell it burning.
We humans don’t monitor everything perfectly, so it’s not like the technology has to be or will be perfect either…..
But, to make sure the camera is working, you need to have a sensor on the camera….
And over time the combine is a mass of wires and sensors where you can’t even get to the combine.
One of the bigger failures now on cars and tractors and all is the sensors.
If we remove the operator, we need sensors to monitor the sensors. On top of the sensors…..
Every layer of parts, sensors, adds more stuff that can fail.
So cost vs complexity vs redundancy.
It will be interesting to watch it unfold.
And where it will lead society.
