Just a few thoughts:
1. “Never” is a long time. I suspect AI will make incremental progress, taking over the tasks that represent “low hanging fruit” first.
2. Just because we can technically do something doesn’t mean we should. Will it help us become lower cost producers? Or will it (like my current combine) tell me I have a bad taillight 50 times a day, while not monitoring coolant level at all (and the recovery tank is buried behind two layers of steel panels).
3. Not to be a Luddite, but are we sure we want to further depopulate rural America? We’re already pretty thin on the ground in the plains. Technical support costs real money, and costs increase with distance. And in the interest of conserving our soil resource, I think we need more footprints (or ATV tracks) in our fields, not less.
4. I’m not sure the electronics reliability on ag equipment is high enough to turn over full control yet. I really like Autosteer, boom controls, etc, provided someone is there to watch it.
5. Agriculture is one place where man still interacts with nature. Many of us have had a machines sidelined by mice. Deer sheds are somehow attracted to tires. I once had a raccoon hang himself between converging steel hydraulic lines, and totally severed a nearby wiring harness as he strangled. Rare, but real. And we have to deal with it. Keep It Simple, Stupid.
6. Right now, I think finding someone to buy our products should be a higher priority.
FWIW.
