Also make sure the end of your island doesn't line up with the fridge. Everyone will stand there. I speak from experience.


Can you elaborate a little more on this? If we extend the end past the fridge, it will be out in the walkway area from the entry door to the rest of the house. If we shorten it so it doesn't line up with the fridge, it will only be about 3' long.


Fridge is "F" island is "I" and everyone stands where "X" is. There's about a 3 to 4 foot gap there, but everyone takes something out of the fridge, turns around, and works on the island immediately in front of the fridge, meaning both the walk way and fridge are perpetually blocked.

It may be to fill a glass of milk, or put a slice of meat on a sandwich, or simply taking something out of the fridge to cook, it is the most popular place in the house to be.
