Don't know about up there but wheat straw is used in the mushroom farm down near Miami, Ok. They used to use big round bales but for the last ten years or so all I ever see is the very large square bales of straw.

They dip in a slurry of chicken or turkey poop and water and that is what mushrooms are grown in. Really appetizing.  *****
