As I kid I grew up never wearing a seatbelt. Then mom got in a partial overlap crash that threw her into the windshield, knocked her out and broke her foot. Suddenly it became family policy after that incident and stuck ever since.

I'm pretty sure hobbling around on a bad foot and picking glass out of her scalp for a few weeks easily swayed her mind; thankfully she came away with no permanent injuries.
