| With a rye cover crop you're going to try to first remember what the number 1 goal was for planting it in the first place. If that goal happens to be waterhemp control, then I'm planting green and letting it grow to above the knee. If it's a sloping field prone to erosion, same thing I'll let it get above the knee. The amount or number of acres that you're going to do depends on your ability to terminate the rye if weather is likely to turn against you in terminating the rye. Just like so many things in farming, risk assessment and then managing it. | |
