as stated concrete. If its not concrete I wouldnt bother. You would be suprised how much manure piles up in feeding areas. I never knew it until we poured concrete and started feeding in the barnyard. i dont care how well its packed once you start scraping out manure your gonna dig up any type of stone base you put down
