An established rye plant that's only a few inches tall already has an amazing little root mass in the top couple inches so at this point it would be very effective at reducing wind and water erosion, nutrient runoff from the field and helping with infiltration. You also had the little plant depending what it was seeded last fall. Everyday that plant is green. It's pumping carbon into the soil.
But yes, the longer you can have it grow without it becoming a negative to your cash crop. The better off you will be | |
