Northwest Iowa | I had to go to the local Social Security office to update one of our adopted kids name /number. After getting all of the documents required (more than you can imagine) I got an appointment. Greeted at the door by a security guard telling me that "this is a federal building so leave guns, knives and pepper spray in the vehicle. No problem. Entered as required in their kiosk and shortly was called to a window. Pretty sure the window was bullet proof glass. It looked like the employee was in a cell looking out!. Contractors were busy there putting in all that heavy plexiglass. I've got that business done but next week I have a phone interview with a SSI person to review that one of our other sons still has down's syndrome. Same son has his monthly SSI amount changed every month as he has a part time job and has more or less hours depending on how the days fall. I get a letter every month. Just things that make you shake your head. On a somewhat related story, on Christmas Eve morning, I went to the local post office to mail a large envelope that would need extra postage. I was in line behind a family with Mom, dad and 3 kids. Girl about 11-12, boy about 4 and little one about 8 months. They were attempting to get their visas but the only one that could speak English was the girl. They were told that the forms needed to be done in black ink as noted on the instructions but theirs were done in blue ink so were sent home. Several red flags were flying, in my opinion! Why Christmas morning? No one speaks English except the little girl and they want a visa? Hope all AgTalkers are healthy ! | |
