When deeper lines freeze up that are usually deep enough, it's this time of year, and they don't thaw out on their own for another month or so. So yes, they can still freeze and stay frozen regardless of the surface temp. If you're going to do this, I'd add a freeze miser at the far end, and run the water full blast at first, then turn it down a little each hour while watching the temp of the water running out, once you get it down to the volume of the freeze miser without getting below the temp of the freeze miser, leave just the freeze miser running.
