nw NC | My father told of using dynamite in making a drainage ditch through a swampy area on our farm. It was in the late 1940's, before I was born. When I was in first or second grade about 1959 or '60, my mother got me out of school one day to take me to her father's farm to watch a drainage ditch blast operation. Mother's brother, home on leave from the Army, was helping his father with the dynamite. It was ditching dynamite so the first stick explosion set of the next in line much like dominoes standing on end fall when the first is pushed against the next one in line. The ditch was probably 200 or so feet long. Quite a show for me as a little fellow that day.
Be nice to be able to get dynamite now to remove a stump or two on occasion. | |
