southern MN | Watched from the house window as dad had someone blow up a rock across the ditch. I was a little kid, mom watched with me.
Helped dad a bit some years later blow up another one the other direction from the house. Could get the sticks from the hardware store.
Before my time, I always heard the story of blowing up stumps that were in the way of the new chicken barn, in the middle of the yard. One of the hired hands ducked behind the side of the summer kitchen small building. Sump blew up a little more than expected, big hunk went over the summer kitchen, hit the yard light pole, and fell down a couple feet away from the hired hand.
