Subject: Preserving oak blocks cut from logs.

East Central Arkansas
I know they say to paint the end of logs to keep them from cracking. I have some blocks I would like to use for different things. One I want to put a anvil on. It will be out in the weather on concrete or clean gravel. What can I do to help keep it from deteriorating. I know to not have it sitting in dirt or where the water stands. I might could cap the top with a piece of steel. Spray the back with a insecticide.
